This course aims to help staff to provide the optimum climate for learning, both for encouraging positive behavior and reducing negative behavior. A positive approach to behavior management can go a long way to reducing the stress levels of staff and students alike.
The course will be useful to:
  • teachers, teaching assistants and other staff
  • administrative staff who have contact with students
  • a staff group who want to revise their school's behavior policy and develop a consistent and effective approach
The basic principles of positive behavior management apply to all ages. The course offers examples for both primary and secondary staff.
The course is divided into four modules:
  • Module 1: Looking at behavior management
  • Module 2: Encouraging good behavior
  • Module 3: Responding to challenge
  • Module 4: Making sanctions work
You will develop and try out new strategies. At the end of each module, you will be asked to briefly assess your current practice. You can use these assessments to develop priorities for action.
